The systems, in plain words

  • Automatic emergency braking (AEB): the forward camera and front radar watch for a vehicle or pedestrian ahead and apply the brakes when the driver does not.
  • Adaptive cruise control: the front radar (on some makes the camera) holds a set following distance behind the vehicle ahead.
  • Lane keeping and lane departure warning: the windshield camera reads the lane markings and warns or steers back when the vehicle drifts.
  • Blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert: rear corner radars behind the bumper cover watch the adjacent lanes and traffic approaching from the sides when reversing.
  • Surround-view cameras: four or more cameras stitched into one top-down image; each camera's position is calibrated after mirror, grille, liftgate or bumper work.
  • Park assist: ultrasonic sensors in the bumper covers measure the distance to obstacles; a replaced or repainted cover can change their aim.
  • Night vision: an infrared camera in the grille or bumper shows pedestrians and animals beyond the reach of the headlights.
  • Traffic sign recognition: the windshield camera reads speed limits and other signs and shows them in the instrument cluster.

Every one of these is calibrated to the vehicle manufacturer's procedure for the VIN, with the citation on the invoice. Which repairs trigger which calibration is on the ADAS Calibration page.
